We've all been there before, bad luck, one thing after the other, never rains but it pours kind of situation. If you think back, did good come out of the bad in the end? If I think back through the bad times then I can see some positives in most of them, it just depends on the spin I put on it.
For example, saying goodbye to friendships can be tough, and I have clung on to something poisonous before because letting it go seemed like a failure when in fact the whole experience made me value the friends that truly deserve to be treasured.
Feeling taken advantage of in the workplace is another common occurrence. As a photographer "working for credit" creeps up from time to time. This means completing a job for free in the hope it is published somewhere and your reputation rewarded through said publication. I'm not going to diss working for credit as in some situations it works well, as long as everyone is getting something out of it but I have known photographers, make up artists, hair stylists and even designers lose out in this grey area of "you scratch my back I'll scratch yours". I have learnt invaluable lessons from this kind of thing though, a silver lining. A lesson in knowing your worth and damn well sticking to it.
I guess the point is that shit happens and if it is possible to take something good from it, however hard it is then that is only a good thing. Getting to a point where you are able to say "I don’t care how hard this is, I don’t care how disappointed I am, I’m not going to let this get the best of me. I’m moving on with my life” is so refreshing.
Life is so much lighter to walk through when you untie the weights from you ankles.
I've learnt the same way! I think its called the school of hard knocks..... but what doesn't break you.....Makes you!
I now only collaborate if the work is quality and if the outcome benefits all and not just one supplier. We Live and Learn ;) xx
